My first career was as a teacher and as an early years specialist this always involved a lot of creativity and making things. After moving to Monmouth and retiring I still felt the need to make things. Having dabbled with ceramics and silversmithing at Hereford Art College I absolutely fell in love with silver and jewellery. Wanting to take this further I enrolled at a jewellery school in Hatton Garden. I travelled up to London each week where I gained a diploma in jewellery design. This culminated in exhibiting at the New Designers Exhibition in Islington, which was a wonderful experience.
Having grown up in the country, playing with sticks and stones, climbing trees and rooting around in streams, being in touch with nature is very important me. Now I walk my dogs and take photographs. Combine this with the compulsive need to collect ‘nice’ stones and sticks and this is where I finds my inspiration. When out, I takes photos of natural objects that create shapes and have textures that interest me then uses these to develop ideas for pieces of jewellery. Working mainly in silver I make jewellery at home, having set a small workshop.
