New Artist Member...

Julie Cannon
Julie is another welcome recent member to the co-operative.
She is a very accomplished watercolourist taking much inspiration from the birds and animals in the Forest of Dean where she lives and works.

Julie says of her work...
Since moving to the area in August 2016 I have fulfilled a life long ambition, to paint, pure and simple. Being self taught, every time I pick up a paint brush is a lesson, in handling the colour, allowing the paint to blend and mix and knowing when to stop!

I’m impatient for the little faces of my subjects to appear and feel a bond with them as we travel through their creation. Sometimes they battle with me, sometimes they’ll happily glide onto the board, either way I’ll refer to them as one of my “babies” when they are fully there, as crazy as that may sound!

More recently Julie has been drawn to drawing and painting the historic buildings around the area. These will be sold as cards in the Gallery.

New Artist Member...
Tara Slater
Tara is one of our recent new members. She is a very
talented artist using many hands on creative processes including printmaking to create her work.
Picture
She says of her work....
The feel of carving lino or paint is just so satisfying and at the same time it never ceases to be challenging. Making art in this way is methodical and can be almost meditative but, by its very nature, can also be very hit and miss.

Printmaking has encouraged me to embrace the unexpected as part of the process and a huge part of what makes traditional prints so special.  It takes time and experience to get the images created on the plate to transfer to the paper in the way that was originally envisioned. It’s an intensively ‘by hand’ process, which I love, and the joy of a perfect print coming off the plate can not be underestimated.

My personal preferences are for recycled or handmade papers and water based inks, as they tie in firmly with my eco-friendly values. I make my own paper whenever I can, and source the rest from responsible and ethical manufacturers.
I’m constantly awed by nature and wildlife, and the importance of the conservation of all life and habitats on our planet comes through my art in the subject matter that appeals to me.  Animals, flora & fauna and landscapes predominate because I feel a very strong connection to these things, with an innate desire to both admire, nurture and protect them.

Waste not......Want not.....
Some of our members use recycled materials or left overs to make entire pieces of work or as a contribution to projects they are working on. Examples of the materials used range from coloured glass bottles, wool, fabric scraps, wood from unwanted furniture, broken crockery and upcyclable fabric to select leaves from trees or plants and skins from vegetables. These materials are often seen as scrap but with some ingenious creative ideas from some of the artists at Made in Ross they are being cleverly made into some of the following....
Picture
Jan Matthews - Felting wool and silk threads
Picture
Rosie Callinan - Pieces of crockery, tiles and glass
Picture
Frances Warren - Recycled Glass and Bottles
Picture
Eleanor Kercher - upcycled wood from unwanted school furniture
Picture
Chris Champness - Reusable wool for knitted items

Should any members of the public have any of the above materials including wool for felting and mosaic crockery and galss as free unwanted items.....all is most welcome.
Please feel free to contact the artist via their gallery page or direct to the gallery.
Each of the items shown above has a link to the artist members page where their email contact form can be found.
