DOLORES PHELPS
I’m a watercolour painter that also uses gouache, ink and various additives such as clay in my paint. I’m fascinated by the way the water moves the pigments into patterns and shapes impossible to create with a brush.
I have lived in the heart of the Forest of Dean for 35 years and am greatly inspired by my woodland surroundings, the rivers Severn and Wye, and the mountains of Wales. My paintings harness the elements – water, air, earth - and I try to involve myself as little as possible in their creation, letting water do the work and using large brushes and non-traditional tools to apply the purest pigmented colours. To convey a sense of atmosphere and light is my goal, whatever the subject matter.
