I studied Art and Design in London in the 1970's and from there started a career in Interior Design, Textiles and Graphics. I went on to develop an interest in esoteric studies and qualified as a practitioner of vibrational medicine and use colour as one of my key healing modalities. My inspiration is from nature and my artwork unites my love of textiles, light, vibration and colour.
I use many different techniques to create my artwork ranging from wet on wet, wax batik, sizing, gutta resists and dry layering together with the effects of salt, alcohol and diluants.
I use Habotai 8 and Pongee 5 Silk with steam fix dyes, as opposed to standard silk paints, as they create a depth and intensity of colour that I strive for. Chinese brushes are my favourite to work with as they hold sufficient dye to cover large areas yet provide a brush point suitable for fine work.
To fix the dyes I steam the silks which further intensifies the finished colours. For me Silk painting has unique characteristics and holds a fascination of its own, it allows the creation of subtle colour transitions and stunning effects as the dyes move through the body of the fabric.
