Myra Fricker
I studied Fine Art as a mature student at the University of East London, graduating in 2005.
Though my career has led me in other directions I successfully exhibited my mixed media art, in London and Stroud, and with my local artists group. Also I enjoyed running children’s art workshops, and acted as an Arts Award facilitator for home educated teenagers. Since moving locally in 2016, I’m finding more time and space to focus on my art. I’ve come to love kiln formed glass, fascinated by the free flowing forms that can be produced using combinations of vibrant colours; images that change with the light. Everything inspires me, nature, science, experiences and stories; there are always ideas, though not all are realised, as it’s a time consuming though absorbing process. Drawings, quick life sketches, are my starting point. In glass I ‘draw’ using copper wire, bending or cutting it to shape faces, geese, or whales. You can see the copper wire sandwiched between two layers of glass, it may trap air bubbles which can be brilliant, - I relish the unpredictability. |
Playing around with off cuts of glass to see what comes is also fun, hence multi-coloured horses and trees, seascapes and sunrise.
I want my glass to tell stories, journeying on an elephant, a visit to a temple, a girl cart wheeling with joy.
