"Gravettian Salmon” Gesso and Acrylic on canvas board 76cm x 50cm This image is inspired from a bas relief carving from the Gravettian period (25,000 years ago) of cave art. This painting is exploring the fluid nature of the image and the surface it is made on. There is a mystery to porous edges. There are many mysteries about cave art, not least the possible intention of communication with the spirit world that could be accessed deep within the caves. Artist Louise Pilditch

"Bob The Fish" “I’m always trying to find different ways to use up the hundreds of empty gas bottles people keep finding and donating to me. Hammered flat they become even more versatile, and one of the things they reminded me of was scales - so a Fire and Water themed exhibition was the perfect opportunity to make a fish!” First one of its kind! Materials: Welded Steel - Recycled nitrous gas canisters, washers, hook on the back for hanging. 100% recycled.

April 2019 - Guest Artist Richard White

Made in Ross Gallery are pleased to welcome
Richard White as our Guest Exhibitor
for April 2019.

Richard's paintings in oils or other media,
photo-art or prints, are all
personal statements and a personal style which is becoming both internationally recognised and sought after by collectors
looking for an investment.

Subjects are wide ranging and created using a vast
tool box
packed with both traditional media and
new digital technology.

He says of himself.....I've been a photographer, artist, designer and publisher for more than fifty years and I feel very privileged to have been given numerous opportunities to express my instinctive creativity with a camera, digital imagery, paint, crayons, pens or whatever came to hand.

Throughout the years, particularly during my time as a photo correspondent, occasionally working in some of the less desirable places of the world, I discovered the importance of looking beyond the ordinary that most people take for granted. It offered a chance for me to open my eyes.
Picture
"When i'm not running around with a camera, I paint pictures in oils and acrylics. If i'm in a brave mood, I'll try watercolours but these usually end up as sketches and notes that inspire paint on canvas".
Picture
For me, the world is still an exciting place where new discoveries, visual stimuli and emotional responses are so important, positive and highly creative experiences. In this way, harnessed to an insatiable curiosity and imagination, I discovered the magic of combining traditional art and photography in my work but never forgetting that the two are very important in their own right.
Most of my prints are derived from original photographs which are a starting point before post-digital painting techniques are applied in various computer imaging programs.
Adobe Photoshop is the most prominent of these and responsible for building textures, enhancements, montages or other changes that add exciting, necessary and personal reflections of my imagination.
Picture

I draw inspiration from 19th and 20th century artists....Impressionism to postmodernism with a special fascination for W.M.Turner, the early Impressionists as well as the Pre Raphaelites.

In particular, I admire photographers such as Steve McCurry, Richard Avedon, Don McCullin, Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams and Annie Leibovitz and more recently, those photographers who have turned towards digital Art and digital painting such as Christopher Gilbert, Ricardo Bagnoli and Erik Almás.

I hope that the collection shown will bring joy and pleasure

Birds as an Inspiration for Art...

16/1/2019

Ranging from the garden Robin to the Kingfishers on the River Wye here at
Made in Ross we celebrate the variety of birds found in our gardens and in the
surrounding countryside. From watercolours to acrylics to ironwork and glass made in ross artists develop their inspirations to create 2 and 3D arts and crafts for everyone to enjoy.

Remember winter can be a difficult time for all wildlife.
Temperatures plummet and food becomes difficult to find.
Insect-eating birds turn to alternative foods, some species travel far and wide,
and foraging behaviour adapts, but we can lend a helping hand by providing a welcome source of extra food for birds to turn to in leaner times.

Ian was born in Edgware, Middlesex in 1953.  He originally trained as a Graphic designer in Hertfordshire.  After working in-house for a variety of organisations based in London, he established his own freelance design business.

His first love, however, is painting, particularly urban and rural landscapes that reflect the unique atmosphere of town and countryside through the seasons.  Having fallen in love with Herefordshire, moving there in 2017, Ian has produced a collection of landscapes of the area.
He states....‘Herefordshire isn’t simply blessed with rolling countryside, it has an ancient charm that is a gem for artists to explore.’
Ian works from his own photographs and paints in both watercolour and acrylic.  With a versatile approach to composition, largely as a result of training in graphic design, he also takes commissions for portraits of people and pets and is more than happy to consider any subject.
